RDP access to ISA was working and then stopped

I had two new ISA 2006 servers running on Server 2003 that were configured with only 1 nic active on each server while I waited for an external IP address to be allocated.

I had already configured a firewall rule to allow RDP access had been successfully using RDP to set up the 2 new ISA servers for weeks.  When external nic IP addresses on a new subnet became avilable for both servers, I added the new IP addresses and gateway and removed the gateway from the internal nic settings on each ISA server.

I lost connection to my RDP session during these changes and have not been able to re-establish a connection to either since then.

I physically went to the server room and was able to RDP out from one ISA server to another and to some other servers on the same subnet, but not to the workstation I had been using earlier that day.  The same behavior happened with both servers.

I have tried rebooting and tried binding RDP only to the internal nic in terminal services properties and tried moving the allow rdp rule up higher in the rules order and it has not helped.

What would cause loss of RDP access when activating a second nic when it was working fine before then?
