I'm IT-coordinator a secondary school. We use TMG2010 to block internet or filter websites for our students. We've recently installed a fresh Win2008R2 server with TMG 2010 Standard standalone. This replaces a Win2003 ISA 2006 standard server. In our configuration we have rules that deny internet accesss per classroom to students. The rules can be disabled by a teacher so students can access the internet. Enabling and disabling is done with a vbscript that is called from an IIS website. This works on both ISA2006 and TMG2010. But on TMG2010 it takes about 10 minutes before the rule gets disabled. On ISA 2006 only about 1 minute.
In an article ( can't add it yet because my account isn't verified yet ) I read that configuration changes work different on ISA2006 standard than on TMG2010. Changing the reg key doesn't help, it only changes the behavior of the update dialog in the TMG manager. The updates are still going very slow. Is there a way to speed up the syncing of the server configuration to the stored configuration? Or is it possible to enable the behaviour like it was on ISA2006?
Losing 10 minutes in a computer classroom is not acceptable if a teacher only has 50 minutes per lesson. Logging on and off also takes a few minutes, so there isn't much time left to teach.
